Blowout Saturday

This wasn't the week to be an underdog. This was the week that all those small universities send out their football teams to take a beating in order to gain some money for their athletic programs. For Florida A&M, the school was awarded $1 Million dollars for its game against Ohio State, which covers 10% of its entire athletic budget. For even smaller schools like Savannah State, the $375,000 it gained from playing Miami this weekend is 9% of its school's endowment. I'm sure the coaches weren't happy with the beat-downs, but the presidents and athletic directors, I'm sure don't mind at all.

I'm sure the Vegas oddsmakers had a hard time this past weekend trying to figure out point spreads. Let's just look at Miami vs. Savannah State. Vegas had Miami as 60 point favorites. Well Miami covered the spread and then some, they won by 71. Take a look at the other blowouts this weekend.

#16 Miami (3-0) over Savannah State (1-3) 77-7
#4 Ohio St. (4-0) crushed Florida A&M (1-3) 76-0
#7 Louisville (4-0) blanks Florida International (0-4) 72-0
#20 Baylor (3-0) beats Louisiana-Monroe (2-2) 70-7
#17 Washington (3-0) tops Idaho St. (2-1) 56-0
#8 Florida St.(3-0) toppled Bethune-Cookman (3-1)  54-6
Iowa (3-1) beat down Western Michigan (0-4) 59-3

Even FCS powerhouse North Dakota State (3-0) whipped Delaware St. (0-3) 51-0

At least next weekend we have some big time matchups.

#1 Alabama vs. #21 Ole Miss
#4 Ohio St. vs. #24 Wisconsin
#6 LSU vs. #9 Georgia
#14 Oklahoma vs. #23 Notre Dame

Fall TV Show Previews

As most guys are excited in the fall for the return of the NFL, many other are excited for the return of their favorite shows. These are a few of my favorites that are coming back this fall as well as a couple new shows that I'm going to give a chance. I'll try to do my best at giving you a synopsis of each show, so that you know what they are all about.

These Are New Shows This Fall:  All times are CDT

Sleepy Hollow is a new take on the classic story of Ichabod Crane and his battles with the headless horseman, except this time it takes place in the present. Take a look at the first episode here. Sleepy Hollow is on FOX, Mondays at 8pm CDT.

Karl Urban and Michael Ealy star in this Sci-Fi action crime drama which takes place in the future where human cops partner with androids to protect and serve mankind. View the trailer here. Almost Human is on FOX, premieres Monday October 4th at 7pm.

One of the FBI's most wanted fugitives surrenders himself. He tells authorities that he will turn over "The Blacklist", a list of politicans, mobsters, spies and international terrorists who threaten the countries' security. His only request, to work with Elizabeth Keen. James Spader stars. The Blacklist premieres on NBC, Monday Sept 23 at 9pm.

Andy Samberg plays Detective Jake Peralta, a very skilled but childish cop who is told he must grow up and "respect the badge" by his new boss, Capt. Holt (Andre Braugher) who is a strict, by-the-book type. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is on FOX, Tuesdays at 7:30pm.

My Returning Favorites:

As the season starts, Booth (David Boreanz) is dealing with a psycho serial killer's threats of more killings, unless he tells Bones (Emily Deschanel) that he doesn't want to marry her. The dynamic of the Jeffersonian Institute's crime solvers, is in flux with having to deal with Bones and Booth's relationship issues. Catch up on episodes here. Bones is on FOX, Mondays at 7pm.

Last season ended with Castle (Nathan Fillion) proposing to Beckett (Stana Katic).  The director's cliffhanger left us waiting for Beckett's answer until the season premiere. We wait to see what she says and what new murders lie ahead for the duo. See the preview here. Castle premieres on ABC, Monday, Sept 23rd at 9pm.

As season 2 ended, we saw Emily tell Jack her true identity to prevent him from killing Conrad. Nolan is arrested, and Declan dies in the hospital after being in the explosion at Grayson Global headquarters. Starring Madeline Stowe, Emily VanCampWatch a preview here. Revenge premieres on ABC, Sunday, Sept 29 at 8pm.

Our favorite roommates return with Nick and Jess' romance in full bloom. Schmidt is overwhelmed with having to make a decision between Cece & Elizabeth. Winston is dealing with being single again, and we wait to see if Coach returns. Watch the new episode here. Starring Zooey Deschanel. New Girl is on FOX, Tuesdays at 8pm.

In Haven, a city full of troubles, we wait to see what happen to Duke & Audrey as they both disappeared into the magic barn, leaving Nathan alone with the town falling apart. We don't know where or when they ended up. Watch the season 4 preview here. Starring Emily Rose, Eric Balfour, & Lucas Bryant. Haven premieres on Syfy, Friday, Sept 20th at 9pm.

From the imagination of J.J. Abrams, the world is overrun with the threat of a nuclear holocaust, power for everyone and the mystery of nanotechnology. Anything is possible for season 2. With us learning that the United States still has a fighting chance, Miles and his crew will travel the country for answers. Watch the preview here. Revolution premieres on NBC, Wednesday, Sept 25th at 7pm.

Grimm is personally my favorite show on tv, well, until June 2014 when 24 returns.  When we last saw Nick, he was being kidnapped after being attacked and being turned into one of Cracher-Mortel's zombie creatures. With Juliette's memory returning in full, we wait to see what her, Monroe and Rosalee will do to save him. Starring David Giuntoli, Bitsie Tulloch, Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell & Sasha Roiz.

Morning Run

I've gotten a bit of a cold over the weekend. My nose has been congested and have been experiencing a sore throat. Yesterday I went to Caputo's to grab some fruit and throat lozenges. My head cold persisted, so now I'm thinking of getting up and going for a run. I have had a bunch of water, peach and banana and read a little bit on Runner's World. It just made me want to see if going for a short jog would help loosen up some of the congestion, because it usually does. Just my same old loop around Commissioner's Park.

I Love It Hot!!

I love running in the hottest of temps, and today wasn't any different. I checked after I came back and the mercury had reached 96℉. For whatever reason, I love going out on the trail when no one else would dare brave the elements. I had one water bottle. Did pushups every 8 mins. It was exhausting but it felt good.

Last Non-Football Sunday

So here I sit, looking for something to do. I'm sure some of you have been bombarded by my tweets and blog posts, because its finally the first time in weeks that I haven't been busy with something going on. After just watching Julie & Julia, I felt it was time to get to the business of writing.

After being stuffed with so many good college football games yesterday, here I sit wanting some NFL action but having to wait until Thursday for the Broncos/Ravens game.  This being the last Sunday without fantasy football for the next 17 weeks, makes me realize I have 2 FFL drafts this week.

Yesterday's NCAAF action shouldn't go without mention. Actually, I should start with the Gophers big win on Thursday over UNLV.  They dominated every phase of the game, which I'm sure all Minnesota fans hope continues through the year and B1G schedule.Phillip Nelson looked very mobile and the UofM's defense was very solid.

As for the rest of the football slate, there were big upsets by small schools, Johnny Football's return after autograph-gate, and classic endings.  I started with #1 Alabama victory over Virginia Tech who usually is the team that dominates on special teams, this time it was 'Bama. Christion Jones had a punt return, kick return & a receiving TDs, to lead the Tide.

Next up was my favorite game of the day between #8 Clemson vs. #5 Georgia.  The game started fast with both teams scoring quickly. Many Heisman candidates were on display; Tajh Boyd (CLEM QB) went 18/30 with 270 yards, 3TDs also ran for 2 TDs as well, Todd Gurley (GA RB) ran for 154 yards with 2 TDs.

The final game of the day that I was able to get my eyes on was the match-up between #12 LSU vs. #20 TCU, and just like the Clem/GA game it started fast and didn't disappoint. With both teams with fast offenses, both teams through up a bunch of points. In the end LSU managed to pull away at the end.

Now we have to sit and wait until next Saturday when we get a full roster of College and NFL games, fantasy football geeks will be going nuts, like myself. I hope you all enjoy the upcoming football. Go Gophers & Vikings!!
